Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year at Gorman
Independent School District. This year we have many new and wonderful
things about which I am pleased to inform you. First and foremost, the new
high school and gymnasium is finished with the exception of some minor
finish work and landscaping. The building is a beautiful state of the art
educational facility in which we can be proud of for years to come. We have
given tours and had an open house, but if you have still not seen it I will
gladly give you a tour. Just come by and see me.
We have also opened a new middle school campus in
the old high school which will house grades 6-8. We hope this will give
this group of students an opportunity to be themselves and develop
leadership skills at an earlier stage of their lives without the presence of
the older, more dominate students on campus. We believe this will also help
our test scores and the overall academic performance of these grades. The
only middle school classes that will not be located in their main building
will be band and athletics.
Our elementary campus has been made ready for this
year by our wonderful maintenance staff and as always looks great and is
ready to go. We have made one major, very special, addition to our
elementary staff. We now have an elementary Counselor, Marlow Byrd. We
believe she will play a key role in helping us raise our campus rating to
exemplary.
The summer has gone by exceptionally fast this year
and we have accomplished a great deal. We are proud to have the opportunity
to be a positive influence in the lives of the children in our charge. Our
schools are safe, healthy, wonderful places for your children to learn and
we take our responsibility very serious.
We have several new employees at the school this
year. If you see someone you don’t know, please introduce yourself and make
them feel welcome. All of the people we’ve hired are of the highest quality
morally, ethically, and professionally. They were chosen from a wide array
of applicants. Please show them why Gorman is a wonderful place to live!
As always, my door is open. If you feel the need to
talk or have a concern you wish to share with me, just drop by or call. No
appointment needed, just call first if possible to make sure I am here.
Thanks again for letting us serve your children!
Sincerely yours,
David K. Perry
